A Flower Among Flowers

May 24 - We're at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church (Salt Lake City) to prepare for TG's baptism tomorrow morning. She looks lovely.

She had fun clowning around between two icon stands in the church.

Girls Will Be Girls

May 13 - Pierced ears!  That's right. Carrie and TG had a big day at the jewelry store.

Home Sweet Home!

May 5 - The long journey is finally over!  We left Addis Ababa at 11:00pm on Saturday, May 3 and arrived in Salt Lake City at 8:45pm On Sunday, May 4. Our family met us at the airport and gave TG a heartfelt welcome into the Murphy family. In spite of the 31 hours of travel time, she was very happy to be so warmly greeted.

Some fooling around in the hotel as we packed our luggage. TG put on Carrie's shepherd hat and paraded around for a while.

Frankfurt airport early Sunday morning.

As the sun came up, she wanted to look stylish of course. Such a girl!

On the airplane over the Atlantic Ocean between Frankfurt and Chicago. Something on the movie screen caught her eye, I think.

TG borrowed dad's headphones for a minute. I wanted her to hear a great song by Diana Ross and the Supremes.

At O'Hare International Airport... as an official U. S. citizen!

So nice to be home!

Peacock Park

May 2 - It's still hard for us to believe, but this is our last full day in Ethiopia. We're feeling a sense of eagerness to get home mixed with sadness to leave. Late this morning we loaded up and walked to Peacock Park, about 1.5 miles from our hotel. The guidebooks didn't tell us much about the park but we thought we'd give it a try. Something interesting we learned after we got there is that there are no peacocks at Peacock Park. To our surprise, when we asked the attendant at the entrance gate about the birds he seemed genuinely surprised that we would pose such an odd question. Huh? We just kept on walking.

Anyway, it is a very lush tropical park in the heart of Addis Ababa with many picturesque areas to relax and enjoy nature.

On our way back to the main road from the park, we passed several of these garden plots. We saw a wide variety of crops. The tall stand of grass at left is bamboo.

Once back on the main road, we were ready to stop for lunch. Because we were hungry we chose the first place that looked good - The Elephant Walk Cafe. Good thing we made a quick decision because a heavy rain started moments before our food arrived. We moved inside and had a relaxing meal watching the rain fall.

Because this is our last night at The Adot Tina Hotel, our home away from home, we wanted to get a photo to capture the "Vegas-like" quality of the place when darkness falls. Very tacky, we thinks!  In spite of the light display, it has been a great place to be. We've enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, our room was comfortable, the food was always good, and the entire staff has been so kind to us.

May Day!

May 1 - There is yet another comedian in the Murphy family!

Early this morning TG grabbed Carrie's comb and pretended to comb her hair. Yeah, right! Hilarious!

Then later in the morning we heard people talking about this security camera photo of the "Pink Balloon Streaker" running around the hotel. Look familiar???

Our new favorite game: "Peek-a-boo".

Before dinner we played in the courtyard again and looked at the flowers and plants.

At dinner, the joking around continued. She did the old "my bib is a hat" gag. What a day!
