April 9 - After visiting the orphanage, we had the profound privilege of meeting Rahel Surafel, the good woman who found little Tigist when she was just 3 months old after being abandoned by her mother. We also met her amazing 16 year old son, Mosie (Moses). Rahel (as in Rachel, form the bible, known for weeping over the children) is a saintly woman. She has a very soft voice but a big heart, and smile. She told us her story and we were able to tell her about us, and our life in the US. She expressed great relief to learn that little TG is going to a loving Christian family. That was very important to her.
After chatting for 45 minutes, she invited us to her home for a coffee ceremony and injera, the traditional Ethiopian dish. It was a life changing afternoon... I thnk for all of us. We have a sweet, innocent little girl as the common bond between us. We will certainly stay in touch with Rahel and her family. Perhaps someday Tigist will have the opportunity to meet this amazing woman.
