Bahir Dar - Kuriftu Resort & Spa (part 1)

April 16 - We left Gondar this morning around 9:00 and had a pleasant 2-1/2 hour drive to Bahir Dar, on the southeastern shore of Lake Tana, which is the source of the Nile River. In Ethiopia, the river is called the Blue Nile as it flows out of Lake Tana. When It crosses into Sudan to the west, the name changes to the Nile. Eventually is winds north through Egypt and into the Mediterranean Sea. The Tana area is the traditional home of the Falasha people, who practice a form of Judaism that was severed from the Jewish mainstream before 650 BC. There are now very few Falasha left here. After centuries of persecution, the majority of them were airlifted to Israel in 1991.

The place we're staying is like a tropical paradise!  The Kuriftu Resort & Spa sits on the shore of the lake in a dense growth of palm, jacaranda, and fig trees (and many more I don't know). The flowering plants are too numerous to count.

The dramatic entrance gate.

This "hut" serves as lobby, check in and gift shop.

The next 7 photos are of our suite!  It could be right out of a movie set. It far exceeds our expectations!

Paintings "carved" into the wall on each side of the bed.

Bathroom, with a huge walk-in shower on the right and loo on the left.

Private veranda with a nap bed on one side...

And a fireplace on the other.

PLUS, a private balcony with a view of Lake Tana.

This is what our suite looks like on the outside. Gorgeous!  We'll also post some photos from around the resort.
